I love this podcast. It’s too bad the Washington Post stopped updating it.  About three minutes per episode, each episode is devoted to a person mainly discussing being. That might mean what they do for a living.  Or it might mean what it’s like to have certain difficulties or talents (sometimes one and the same).  Or maybe ‘being’ means bitching about those people who get on the elevator and ride it for only one floor.

letter from David Foster Wallace 7/19/1999

my husband at the time tore the letter and envelope in half to use as scratch paper.  I received a second note from DFW a few months later. At that time my mother used the envelope as scratch paper, too; but at least she didn’t tear it in half.

No one has used my personal correspondence as scratch paper before or since then. It is hard to not extrapolate.
